My Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) was custom made by Co Thu. She has a shop inside OK Water on Brookhurst and Hazard near Van’s Bakery. I brought her some photos of what I wanted and got fabric from LA. She did a really beautiful job on it. I loved everything from the detailing on the collar to the scalloped sleeves. Since our colors were light blue and gold, I wanted a gold ao dai. We blinged it up with some swarovski crystals. The inside layer is a nude silk and the outside layer was a gold lace pattern. My pants were also custom made in an ivory silk material which I also got in LA.
The hat was made by my best friend Linda’s mom. She is a pro at making them and offered to make mine! The day before the wedding, my aunts from Arizona were in town and they helped out with “blinging up” the ao dai and added some lace flowers from the excess material from the dress and hot glued them onto the hat along with crystals for some added bling!
I am so grateful and lucky to have such wonderful family who help out so much!
Here’s them blinging out the dress (Thanks Co Diep and Di Ri!):
You can see the bling on the top back part..bling! bling!
The whole outfit turned out great. I really love the dress. I want to wear it again!
Here’s a better picture of how the hat looked (thanks Co Liem!):
I wasn’t used to wearing that hat and kept bumping into things with it!

Hello,
I love your gown! I was actually looking for the exact same fabric but I’ve been unsuccessful finding it. I went to Moods Designer Fabrics in LA on La cienaga…where can i find this specific fabric store you went to in LA? Would you mind letting me know? I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi Tammy,
Sorry for asking you so many questions, but were there other shops that has as many lace as well? Or was this the only shop that had the most? Where did you purchase the swarovski crystals to sew them on?
Thank you SO much. I LOVE your ao dai so much!!

Don’t be sorry! I love helping brides out! There were a lot of shops around where Maple Collection was that had a lot of lace fabrics. Check out http://www.fashiondistrict.org/map/ to get an idea of where everything is. My mom bought the swarovski crystals for me. She got them at a beat store in Costa Mesa..I think she got them at Bead City on Harbor and 19th St. She also told me there is another bead store that she wasn’t able to check that is in Fountain Valley on Magnolia and Talbert in the 99 Ranch Market Plaza. I hope this helps!!! Good luck and let me know if you need help with anything else!
Thanks! I love my ao dai too!!!

Hello! I love your Ao dai! If you wouldn’t mind me asking how much you paid to get the Ao dai made. Also do you have the phone number of the person who made your Ao dai. Thank you so much!

Hi Vivian!! Thank you so much 🙂 I can’t remember off the bat but I’m asking my mom is she remembers because she helped me with getting the fabric and everything. She should also have Co Thu’s phone number, the lady who tailored the dress for me. As soon as I find out I will let you know! 🙂

Hi Vivian,
I’m so sorry it took so long, but my mom had to get the number for me and she finally did! Co Thu’s number is 714-775-7951. I’m not sure if it has changed, but that is the number my mom had for her. Also, we don’t remember how much it was and the price might be different now. For some reason I want to say it was around one hundred something…Give her a call! You can show her the picture of my dress too, she will probably remember the dress and can tell you how much it will cost. Good luck!! Best wishes.

Your ao dai and khan dong are beautiful.
I am attempting to make the hat by myself. Are you able to tell me what the base/form of the hat is made of and where I could find the material to make it? I’m so desperate, I’m thinking of making it out of a yoga mat, but I just haven’t found a thin enough mat yet. lol
